What is 19MnCr5?
19MnCr5 (1.3523) is a manganese-chromium case-hardening steel from the EN 10084 family, similar to 17MnCr5 but with slightly modified hardenability for carburized bearing rings and rollers. It is used where a hard, wear-resistant case must sit on a tough core, and is supplied as bar, tube and forging stock in conditions from +U and +AC through +FP, +TH, +S, +H and CH, with core values near 350 MPa yield, 560 MPa tensile and 22% elongation at about 180 HB. It offers no corrosion resistance, is limited to roughly 350 °C service, and can only be welded before carburizing. 17MnCr5 is the nearest alternative. 19MnCr5 has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). 19MnCr5 has a yield strength of 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) — weaker than 74% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 210 GPa (30.5 Msi).
