What is C35RC?
C35RC is a medium-carbon round-bar quality steel of the C35 type (1.1060, AISI 1035, S35C) with about 0.35 % C, relying on carbon content and normalizing or quench-and-temper for its properties. It ships untreated, annealed, spheroidize-annealed, cold-drawn, normalized, quenched-and-tempered or hardenability-tested, with defaults of 300 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile, 25 % elongation, 150 HB (80 HRB), 51 W/m·K conductivity and service to 400 °C. Machinability (58) and formability (82) are good, but weldability is limited (score 55, CE ≈ 0.5) and there is no corrosion resistance. For higher strength in the same bar sizes, C45 is the usual alternative. C35RC has a density of 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³), heavier than 56% of steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). C35RC has a yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — weaker than 86% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 205 GPa (29.7 Msi).

Working with C35RC
Is C35RC easy to machine?
Machines readily at ~65 % of 1212; spheroidized (+AC) stock can smear — prefer normalized or cold-drawn bar and sharp coated carbide with generous feed.
Can C35RC be welded?
Weldable with care (CE ≈ 0.5): use low-hydrogen consumables, 150–250 °C preheat on sections over ~20 mm and slow cooling to avoid HAZ martensite cracking.
Can C35RC be formed, bent or molded?
In +AC or +AC+C condition it cold-heads, upsets and thread-rolls well; hot forge at 1100–850 °C, then normalize before final machining.
