Working with A1N00-H22

Is A1N00 easy to machine?

Very soft and gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, sharp tools and generous lubricant to avoid built-up edge; hard tempers (H18) chip better than O.

Can A1N00 be welded?

Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using ER1100 or ER4043 filler; resistance welding and brazing are also routine, but the weld softens to near-O strength in the HAZ.

Can A1N00 be formed, bent or molded?

Outstanding cold formability in O/H22 — deep draws, spinning, and rolling to sub-10 µm foil; intermediate anneals restore ductility in hard tempers.

What surface finishes work on A1N00?

Takes clear/bright anodize, chemical conversion coating, lacquer and printing well; the anodic layer stays thin and soft, so use it for appearance and corrosion rather than wear.

A1N00-H22 — frequently asked

What is A1N00-H22 used for?

A1N00-H22 is typically used for electrolytic capacitor foil, high-purity electrical foil, etched anode and cathode foil stock, thin-gauge conductor strip, foil laminates and shielding and reflective foil sheet. In short: JIS capacitor-foil purity grade; near-maximum 1000-series formability; uniform etching characteristics.

What is the yield strength of A1N00-H22?

A1N00-H22 has a typical yield strength of 85 MPa (12.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 110 MPa (16 ksi) — weaker than 88% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.

Is A1N00-H22 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (28/100, worse than 94% of aluminum grades). Very soft and gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, sharp tools and generous lubricant to avoid built-up edge; hard tempers (H18) chip better than O.

Can A1N00-H22 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated excellent (92/100). Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using ER1100 or ER4043 filler; resistance welding and brazing are also routine, but the weld softens to near-O strength in the HAZ.

What surface finishes work on A1N00-H22?

Takes clear/bright anodize, chemical conversion coating, lacquer and printing well; the anodic layer stays thin and soft, so use it for appearance and corrosion rather than wear.

Can A1N00-H22 be formed, bent or molded?

Outstanding cold formability in O/H22 — deep draws, spinning, and rolling to sub-10 µm foil; intermediate anneals restore ductility in hard tempers.

What is the maximum service temperature of A1N00-H22?

A1N00-H22 is rated for continuous use to about 150°C (302 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between A1N00-O and A1N00-H18?

O is the default condition — softest, most formable condition — deep drawing, foil converting and any application needing maximum ductility. H18: maximum cold-worked strength; the standard temper for hard foil and capacitor/packaging foil stock. Yield strength is 35 MPa in O versus 150 MPa in H18.
