Working with 5B05-H112
Is 5B05 easy to machine?
Annealed material smears and builds up on the cutting edge; use sharp high-rake tooling, high spindle speed and emulsion or alcohol-based lubricant. Cold-worked tempers break chips much better.
Can 5B05 be welded?
TIG and MIG weldability is excellent using matching 5B05 or ER5356 wire; remove the oxide film, oil and moisture completely before welding to prevent porosity. Not suitable for furnace brazing.
Can 5B05 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forming and cold heading are good in the annealed state, but work hardening is rapid; multi-stage deep draws need intermediate annealing at about 340-400 °C. Avoid long holds above 65 °C to prevent sensitisation.
What surface finishes work on 5B05?
Anodizes well, especially after bright or chemical polishing, and also accepts chemical conversion coating and paint. Zincate pretreatment is required before electroplating.

Is 5B05-H112 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (42/100, worse than 77% of aluminum grades). Annealed material smears and builds up on the cutting edge; use sharp high-rake tooling, high spindle speed and emulsion or alcohol-based lubricant. Cold-worked tempers break chips much better.
Can 5B05-H112 be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated excellent (88/100). TIG and MIG weldability is excellent using matching 5B05 or ER5356 wire; remove the oxide film, oil and moisture completely before welding to prevent porosity. Not suitable for furnace brazing.
What surface finishes work on 5B05-H112?
Anodizes well, especially after bright or chemical polishing, and also accepts chemical conversion coating and paint. Zincate pretreatment is required before electroplating.
Can 5B05-H112 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forming and cold heading are good in the annealed state, but work hardening is rapid; multi-stage deep draws need intermediate annealing at about 340-400 °C. Avoid long holds above 65 °C to prevent sensitisation.
What is the maximum service temperature of 5B05-H112?
