What is C17465?
C17465 is a leaded, nickel-bearing beryllium copper in the wrought lightly alloyed copper family (C10000–C19999), aged to 550 MPa yield, 690 MPa tensile and 195 HB (22 HRC) while keeping 50 % IACS and 215 W/m·K. The lead addition lifts machinability to a rating of 65, so it is used for turned connectors, precision bushings and mould components that need beryllium-copper strength and conductivity on high-volume screw-machine work. Fusion weldability is poor (rating 25) and formability is limited (rating 25), with a 300 °C service ceiling; unleaded C17510 or C17200 are the alternatives when welding or deep forming is required. C17465 has a density of 8.83 g/cm³ (0.319 lb/in³), heavier than 65% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,000°C (1,832 °F). C17465 has a yield strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 690 MPa (100 ksi) — stronger than 92% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 15% and the elastic modulus is 138 GPa (20 Msi).

Working with C17465
Is C17465 easy to machine?
Lead addition gives short chips and good surface finish — turn dry or with flood coolant at BeCu speeds, and capture all dust/fines under local exhaust because beryllium particulate is hazardous.
Can C17465 be welded?
Fusion welding is unreliable (lead-induced hot cracking); use resistance or electron-beam joining on unleaded transition pieces, or mechanical/brazed joints.
Can C17465 be formed, bent or molded?
Form only in TB00/TD02; aged tempers have limited bend ductility — age after forming (typically ~480 °C, 2–3 h) with allowance for slight growth.
C17465 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Beprecipitation hardening element | 0.15 – 0.5 | 0.3 |
| Niforms NiBe precipitates | 1 – 1.4 | 1.2 |

What surface finishes work on C17465?
Not anodizable; electroless nickel, silver or tin plating are standard, and the aged alloy polishes to a bright, wear-resistant surface.
