Working with 1230A-H24
Is 1230A easy to machine?
Very gummy and prone to built-up edge — use polished high-rake carbide, high speed, low feed and generous lubricant; hard tempers (H18) cut cleaner than O.
Can 1230A be welded?
Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using 1100/1188 filler; no cracking issues, but the HAZ anneals back to O-temper strength.
Can 1230A be formed, bent or molded?
Outstanding cold formability in O/H2x tempers — deep drawing, spinning and foil rolling; springback low, but hard tempers need generous bend radii.
What surface finishes work on 1230A?
Anodizes bright and clear (good for reflectors and decorative foil); also readily rolled to mirror finish, painted, laminated or coated.
