What is ENiCu-7?
ENiCu-7 is a nickel-copper covered electrode (W84190, Monel Filler Metal 60) for shielded metal arc welding of Monel 400 and other Ni-Cu alloys. It is specified when the weld must match base-metal corrosion resistance in seawater, brine and dilute acid service; as-welded deposits run about 290 MPa yield, 520 MPa tensile, 35% elongation and 165 HB (84 HRB). Supply is limited to flux-covered stick electrodes, service is capped near 480 °C, and the deposit is highly sulfur- and lead-sensitive, so joint surfaces must be spotless. For GTAW or GMAW of the same base metals, the bare ERNiCu-7 wire is the direct counterpart. ENiCu-7 has a density of 8.83 g/cm³ (0.319 lb/in³), heavier than 82% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,300°C (2,372 °F). ENiCu-7 has a yield strength of 290 MPa (42.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 520 MPa (75.4 ksi) — weaker than 81% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 179 GPa (26 Msi).

Working with ENiCu-7
Is ENiCu-7 easy to machine?
Deposits machine like Monel 400 — gummy and work-hardening; use sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy feed, low speed, flood coolant.
Can ENiCu-7 be welded?
SMAW with DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input and minimal weaving; joints must be free of sulfur, lead, grease and paint to avoid hot cracking; redry electrodes ~150–200 °C before use.
Can ENiCu-7 be formed, bent or molded?
Not a wrought product; deposit itself is ductile and can be peened or lightly dressed, and overlays tolerate cold flattening of the base plate.
