What is M-35-1?
M-35-1 (A494, N24135/J24135) is a cast nickel-copper alloy matching wrought Monel 400 (N04400), used for pressure-containing castings in seawater and sulfuric acid service. Typical properties are 205 MPa yield, 485 MPa tensile, 35 % elongation and 125 HB (70 HRB), with a corrosion rating of 76 and service to 480 °C. The alloy cuts gummy and work-hardens, and it shrinks strongly on solidification, so risers, chills and Mg or Ti deoxidation are needed to avoid gas porosity. CZ-100 is the alternative where pure nickel is wanted for caustic duty; CY-40 covers higher temperatures. M-35-1 has a density of 8.84 g/cm³ (0.319 lb/in³), heavier than 83% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,300°C (2,372 °F). M-35-1 has a yield strength of 205 MPa (29.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 485 MPa (70.3 ksi) — weaker than 94% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 150 GPa (21.8 Msi).

Working with M-35-1
Is M-35-1 easy to machine?
Gummy and work-hardening: use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, low speed (25–45 m/min) with heavy feed, flood coolant and never dwell in the cut.
Can M-35-1 be welded?
Readily welded with GTAW/SMAW using ERNiCu-7 / ENiCu-7 filler; grind out casting skin and defects, preheat only to remove moisture, keep interpass low and avoid sulfur-bearing contamination.
Can M-35-1 be formed, bent or molded?
Sand or investment cast; alloy is fluid but shrinks strongly — use generous risers, chills on heavy sections and degas/deoxidize with Mg or Ti to avoid gas porosity.
