What is ACP 5080?
ACP 5080 is a continuously cast, precision double-side milled aluminum tooling plate from Aleris/Novelis in the same class as MIC-6, Alca 5 and K100-S, based on an Al-Mg (5083-type) composition. Its value is very low internal stress, isotropic free machining and tight flatness and thickness tolerance, typically ±0.13 mm, so parts stay flat after heavy stock removal — hence its use for fixtures, gauges, vacuum chucks, mould bases and machine base plates. Strength and elongation are well below 6061-T651 rolled plate, it cannot be cold formed, welds pick up porosity, and anodizing looks dark and mottled, so it is not a structural or cosmetic material. ACP 5080 has a density of 2.8 g/cm³ (0.101 lb/in³), heavier than 81% of aluminum grades. It melts at 570°C (1,058 °F). ACP 5080 has a yield strength of 110 MPa (16 ksi) and a tensile strength of 172 MPa (24.9 ksi) — weaker than 81% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 3% and the elastic modulus is 71 GPa (10.3 Msi).
What is ACP 5080 used for?
- Machining fixtures and jig plates
- Vacuum forming tools and vacuum chucks
- Injection mould bases and frames
- Inspection and check fixtures
- Automation and packaging machine base plates
- Flat gauge and index plates
Advantages
- Easy to machine — 92/100, better than 98% of aluminum grades
Limitations
- Hard to polish — 35/100, worse than 98% of aluminum grades
- Low strength — 110 MPa (16 ksi), worse than 81% of aluminum grades
- Limited ductility — 3%, worse than 79% of aluminum grades

Manufacturability8
ACP 5080's machinability is excellent (92/100, better than 98% of aluminum grades); weldability fair (45/100); formability not recommended (12/100).

Working with ACP 5080
Is ACP 5080 easy to machine?
Machines very freely and chip-breaks well at high speed with polished-flute carbide; because it is nearly stress-free, thin ribs and large flat plates hold size after heavy stock removal.
Can ACP 5080 be welded?
TIG/MIG possible with 4043/5356 for repair only — cast porosity causes gas pickup and the HAZ loses the stress-relieved stability that makes the product worthwhile.
Can ACP 5080 be formed, bent or molded?
Not a forming alloy: with ~3 % elongation it cracks on bending or rolling; design for machined, bolted or doweled assemblies.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to ACP 5080. Every ACP 5080 part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.

What surface finishes work on ACP 5080?
Accepts primer/paint and chemical conversion coating well; anodize (especially hard-coat) is acceptable for wear but appears dark and mottled, and high-polish mirror finishes are limited by micro-porosity.

How much does ACP 5080 cost?
ACP 5080 is a standard-cost aluminum ($$), cheaper than about 60% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
