What is ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2?
ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 (C95400) is a manganese-modified cast aluminium bronze at roughly 10 % Al, 3 % Fe and 2 % Mn that reaches higher strength than plain aluminium bronze and can be supplied heat treated (HT) as well as sand, chill, centrifugal and continuous cast. Default properties are 220 MPa yield, 560 MPa tensile, 18 % elongation and 130 HB, with service to 300 °C, which suits heavy-duty gearing, propellers and marine valve work. Ductility is lower than ZCuAl9Mn2 and welding needs preheat plus oxide removal. Where still higher strength and toughness are required, ZCuAl8Mn13Fe3Ni2 is the obvious alternative. ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 has a density of 7.5 g/cm³ (0.271 lb/in³), lighter than 98% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,030°C (1,886 °F). ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 has a yield strength of 220 MPa (31.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) — weaker than 51% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 110 GPa (16 Msi).

Working with ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2
Is ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 easy to machine?
Moderate machinability, about 50 % of 1212: use sharp positive-rake carbide at low to moderate speed with heavy feed, chip-breaker geometry for the continuous chips, and ample emulsion coolant to prevent built-up edge.
Can ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 be welded?
TIG/MIG welding and weld repair with ERCuAl-A2 filler are practical with 150–250 °C preheat, removal of the alumina film and interpass temperature control. Oxyacetylene welding is not recommended; local post-weld annealing reduces residual stress.
Can ZCuAl10Fe3Mn2 be formed, bent or molded?
Castings are not cold formed. Melt under a cover flux and use bottom-gated moulds to avoid re-oxidation of the aluminium and dross entrapment; provide adequate riser feeding and gradual wall-thickness transitions.
