Compare all 5 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Soft annealed | Pick the soft annealed state for deep drawing, cold heading or coil winding where maximum ductility (65% elongation) is required; yield drops to 207 MPa. | 207 | 483 | 65 | 110 HB | 15 % IACS |
As hot extruded | Choose the as-hot-extruded or hot-rolled state for large bars and profiles that will be machined to size: 240 MPa yield with 40% elongation at the lowest cost. | 240 | 550 | 40 | 130 HB | 15 % IACS |
Half hard | Use half-hard, roughly 15% cold drawn stock as a compromise at 275 MPa yield and 40% elongation for fastener and shaft blanks that still need bending or riveting. | 275 | 550 | 40 | 140 HB | 15 % IACS |
H04Default Full hard | Choose the hard, about 35% cold drawn rod or bar, the usual stock condition, for bolts, valve stems and pump shafts needing 320 MPa yield; elongation is down to 25%. | 320 | 585 | 25 | 160 HB | 15 % IACS |
Extra hard | Pick the extra-hard, heavily cold drawn wire or rod for springy and wear parts requiring 380 MPa yield and 620 MPa tensile; elongation falls to 15% and forming is restricted. | 380 | 620 | 15 | 175 HB | 15 % IACS |
What is C61000?
C61000 is a single-phase (alpha) aluminum bronze with about 8% Al in the C50000–C69999 wrought bronze family, supplied as rod, bar and forging stock. It is used where strength, corrosion resistance and cold-working capability are needed together: 320 MPa yield, 585 MPa tensile, 25% elongation, 160 HB (87 HRB), service to 250 °C and 15% IACS, with weldability 75, formability 55 and corrosion resistance 78. The main constraint is machinability, rated 30 (about 20% of free-cutting brass), so cycle times and tool wear should be planned accordingly. C61500 is the nearest alternative when higher corrosion resistance and ductility are required. C61000 has a density of 7.58 g/cm³ (0.274 lb/in³), lighter than 94% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,046°C (1,915 °F). C61000 has a yield strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 585 MPa (84.8 ksi) — stronger than 68% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 117 GPa (17 Msi).

Working with C61000
Is C61000 easy to machine?
Machinability is only about 20% (free-cutting brass = 100). Use sharp tools with a large positive rake, low speed with heavy feed and ample coolant; chips are long and tough and tend to stick to the tool.
Can C61000 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW with aluminum-bronze filler (ERCuAl-A2) gives good results, but the alumina film must be removed mechanically or chemically before welding. Oxyacetylene welding and soft soldering are not recommended.
Can C61000 be formed, bent or molded?
The single-phase alpha structure cold-heads, cold-bends and cold-draws well. Hot-work at about 780–900 °C and intermediate-anneal at 600–650 °C followed by rapid cooling.

What surface finishes work on C61000?
Polishes to a high-gloss golden finish and accepts nickel or chrome plating. It cannot be anodized; outdoors, use clear lacquer or a passivation treatment to maintain appearance.
