What is 6110A?
6110A (EN AW-6110A, AlMg0.9Si0.9MnCu) is a copper- and manganese-modified Al-Mg-Si extrusion alloy developed for the upper strength range of the 6000-series family. In T6 it reaches 355 MPa yield, 385 MPa tensile, 11% elongation and 115 HB (68 HRB), which suits load-bearing transportation and structural extrusions where 6082 is not strong enough. The copper addition reduces corrosion resistance and weldability relative to Cu-free 6000-series grades, conductivity is 40% IACS and service is limited to about 150 °C. 6082-T6 is the usual alternative where welding or chloride exposure dominates. 6110A has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0979 lb/in³), heavier than 51% of aluminum grades. It melts at 585°C (1,085 °F). 6110A has a yield strength of 355 MPa (51.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 385 MPa (55.8 ksi) — stronger than 84% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 11% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with 6110A
Is 6110A easy to machine?
Machines well in T5/T6 with polished carbide tools, high speed and copious coolant; T4/O tempers are gummy and prone to built-up edge.
Can 6110A be welded?
MIG/TIG weldable with 4043 (or 5356 for anodizing colour match); expect 40–50% HAZ strength loss and hot-crack risk from the Cu — post-weld T6 ageing restores much of the strength.
Can 6110A be formed, bent or molded?
Extrudes at moderate press speed (harder than 6063/6082); bend and hydroform in T4/W temper then artificially age — cold bending in T6 needs generous radii (≥3t).

What surface finishes work on 6110A?
Takes clear and hard anodising well but Cu/Mn intermetallics give a slightly darker, less uniform tint; chromate-free conversion coating or powder paint is preferred where chloride exposure occurs.
