Anodizing Responsegood — sound clear and hard anodic coatings; Cu and Mn-bearing intermetallics can give slight grey/darker tint, so bright/decorative anodize is less uniform than 6063.

Working with 6110A-T5

Is 6110A easy to machine?

Machines well in T5/T6 with polished carbide tools, high speed and copious coolant; T4/O tempers are gummy and prone to built-up edge.

Can 6110A be welded?

MIG/TIG weldable with 4043 (or 5356 for anodizing colour match); expect 40–50% HAZ strength loss and hot-crack risk from the Cu — post-weld T6 ageing restores much of the strength.

Can 6110A be formed, bent or molded?

Extrudes at moderate press speed (harder than 6063/6082); bend and hydroform in T4/W temper then artificially age — cold bending in T6 needs generous radii (≥3t).

What surface finishes work on 6110A?

Takes clear and hard anodising well but Cu/Mn intermetallics give a slightly darker, less uniform tint; chromate-free conversion coating or powder paint is preferred where chloride exposure occurs.

6110A-T5 — frequently asked

What is 6110A-T5 used for?

6110A-T5 is typically used for high-strength structural extrusions, automotive bumper beams, vehicle seat and slide rails, chassis and subframe sections, crash management components and load-bearing transport profiles. In short: highest-strength 6000-series extrusion; cu-bearing, lower corrosion resistance; stronger than 6082-T6.

What is the yield strength of 6110A-T5?

6110A-T5 has a typical yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) — stronger than 77% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.

Is 6110A-T5 easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated good (57/100, worse than 55% of aluminum grades). Machines well in T5/T6 with polished carbide tools, high speed and copious coolant; T4/O tempers are gummy and prone to built-up edge.

Can 6110A-T5 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (65/100). MIG/TIG weldable with 4043 (or 5356 for anodizing colour match); expect 40–50% HAZ strength loss and hot-crack risk from the Cu — post-weld T6 ageing restores much of the strength.

Can 6110A-T5 be formed, bent or molded?

Extrudes at moderate press speed (harder than 6063/6082); bend and hydroform in T4/W temper then artificially age — cold bending in T6 needs generous radii (≥3t).

What is the maximum service temperature of 6110A-T5?

6110A-T5 is rated for continuous use to about 150°C (302 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between 6110A-T6 and 6110A-O?

T6 is the default condition — default stocked condition: maximum strength for crash-management and load-bearing extrusions. O: softest condition for heavy cold forming or deep bending before re-heat-treatment. Yield strength is 355 MPa in T6 versus 65 MPa in O.
