Working with 6110A-T4
Is 6110A easy to machine?
Machines well in T5/T6 with polished carbide tools, high speed and copious coolant; T4/O tempers are gummy and prone to built-up edge.
Can 6110A be welded?
MIG/TIG weldable with 4043 (or 5356 for anodizing colour match); expect 40–50% HAZ strength loss and hot-crack risk from the Cu — post-weld T6 ageing restores much of the strength.
Can 6110A be formed, bent or molded?
Extrudes at moderate press speed (harder than 6063/6082); bend and hydroform in T4/W temper then artificially age — cold bending in T6 needs generous radii (≥3t).
What surface finishes work on 6110A?
Takes clear and hard anodising well but Cu/Mn intermetallics give a slightly darker, less uniform tint; chromate-free conversion coating or powder paint is preferred where chloride exposure occurs.

6110A-T4 — frequently asked
What is 6110A-T4 used for?
6110A-T4 is typically used for high-strength structural extrusions, automotive bumper beams, vehicle seat and slide rails, chassis and subframe sections, crash management components and load-bearing transport profiles. In short: highest-strength 6000-series extrusion; cu-bearing, lower corrosion resistance; stronger than 6082-T6.
What is the yield strength of 6110A-T4?
6110A-T4 has a typical yield strength of 155 MPa (22.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) — weaker than 63% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.
Is 6110A-T4 easy to machine?
Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (45/100, worse than 72% of aluminum grades). Machines well in T5/T6 with polished carbide tools, high speed and copious coolant; T4/O tempers are gummy and prone to built-up edge.
