What is Ti Grade 25?
Ti Grade 25 (UNS R56403) is a Ti-6Al-4V variant with nickel and palladium additions, supplied to ASTM B265/B348, that keeps Grade 5-level strength while improving resistance to crevice attack in hot chloride environments. It is specified for high-strength parts in seawater and downhole service, with default annealed/STA properties of 880 MPa yield, 950 MPa tensile, 14% elongation and 330 HB (35 HRC), and service to 400 °C in bar, plate, sheet and forgings. Machinability is low (score 20) and cold formability limited (score 25, bend radii 4–5t), and the alloy addition raises cost — use plain Grade 5 where crevice corrosion is not a concern, or Grade 29 where toughness governs. Ti Grade 25 has a density of 4.43 g/cm³ (0.16 lb/in³), lighter than 89% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,604°C (2,919 °F). Ti Grade 25 has a yield strength of 880 MPa (128 ksi) and a tensile strength of 950 MPa (138 ksi) — stronger than 78% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 113 GPa (16.4 Msi).

Working with Ti Grade 25
Is Ti Grade 25 easy to machine?
Machine like Ti-6Al-4V: rigid setups, sharp uncoated-carbide or PVD tools, ~30–60 m/min surface speed, heavy flood coolant, never dwell in the cut.
Can Ti Grade 25 be welded?
GTAW/EBW/plasma with full inert shielding and trailing/backing gas; clean joints, keep interstitial pickup low, use matching Gr.25 or ERTi-5 filler.
Can Ti Grade 25 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold formability is limited (bend radii ≥4–5t); hot form or superplastic form at 750–900 °C, then descale and pickle.
