What is Ti Grade 24?
Ti Grade 24 (UNS R56404/R56405, ASTM B265 and B348) is Ti-6Al-4V with a small palladium addition that keeps Grade 5 mechanical properties while improving crevice-corrosion resistance in reducing acids. Annealed product gives about 880 MPa yield, 950 MPa tensile, 14% elongation and 334 HB (36 HRC) with a service ceiling near 400 °C, and it is used as sheet, plate, bar and forgings. Machinability is poor and cold formability limited (bend radii 4–5t or larger); Grade 5 is cheaper where crevice attack is not a risk, and Grade 29 is the option when ELI toughness is also required. Ti Grade 24 has a density of 4.43 g/cm³ (0.16 lb/in³), lighter than 89% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,604°C (2,919 °F). Ti Grade 24 has a yield strength of 880 MPa (128 ksi) and a tensile strength of 950 MPa (138 ksi) — stronger than 78% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 114 GPa (16.5 Msi).

Working with Ti Grade 24
Is Ti Grade 24 easy to machine?
Machine like Ti-6Al-4V: rigid setup, low surface speed (25–50 m/min carbide), heavy positive-rake sharp tools, generous high-pressure flood coolant, never dwell in cut.
Can Ti Grade 24 be welded?
GTAW/plasma/EBW with full argon shielding and trailing/back purge; use matching Gr.24 or Gr.5 filler, keep interstitial pickup low, stress relieve 540–650 °C after welding.
Can Ti Grade 24 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold formability is limited (bend radii ≥4–5t); hot form or size at 700–900 °C, then descale and pickle to remove alpha case.
