| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AnnealedDefault mill/α-β annealed (704–790 °C, air cool) | Standard stocked condition for bar, plate, tube and forgings; best balance of strength, ductility and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 compliance. | 830 | 900 | 15 | 33 HRC | — |
Transformed Beta | Solution-treated above the beta transus and cooled to give a lamellar/Widmanstätten transformed-beta microstructure — higher fracture toughness, creep and crack-growth resistance at the cost of ductility and smooth-bar fatigue, favoured for thick subsea forgings in Grade 29. | 830 | 910 | 11 | 34 HRC | 1 % IACS |
Stress relieved | Applied to welded assemblies, cold-drawn tube and machined parts to remove residual stress without changing microstructure appreciably. | 845 | 910 | 14 | 33 HRC | 1 % IACS |
Solution treated and aged | Used where higher strength is needed in sections under ~25 mm; hardness may exceed sour-service (NACE) limits, so verify service requirements. | 930 | 1,000 | 11 | 36 HRC | — |

What is Ti Grade 29?
Ti Grade 29 (UNS R56407/R56404, ASTM B265 and B348) is Ti-6Al-4V ELI with a ruthenium addition, combining ELI-level toughness with improved corrosion resistance for oil and gas and marine service. Annealed material provides about 830 MPa yield, 900 MPa tensile, 15% elongation and 330 HB (33 HRC) to roughly 315 °C, and it welds well (weldability score 80) as plate, bar, forgings and fasteners. Machinability is poor and cold forming limited; Grade 23 ELI is cheaper where crevice corrosion is not a concern, and Grade 24 is the palladium-modified alternative. Ti Grade 29 has a density of 4.43 g/cm³ (0.16 lb/in³), lighter than 89% of titanium grades. It melts at 1,604°C (2,919 °F). Ti Grade 29 has a yield strength of 830 MPa (120 ksi) and a tensile strength of 900 MPa (131 ksi) — stronger than 62% of titanium grades. Elongation at break is 15% and the elastic modulus is 114 GPa (16.5 Msi).
What is Ti Grade 29 used for?
- subsea components
- oil & gas fasteners
- chemical processing parts
Advantages

Limitations
- Poor heat conductor — 6.7 W/m·K (3.87 BTU/hr·ft·°F), worse than 92% of titanium grades
- Low electrical conductivity — 1 % IACS, worse than 89% of titanium grades

Working with Ti Grade 29
Is Ti Grade 29 easy to machine?
Machine like Ti-6Al-4V ELI: rigid setup, sharp uncoated-carbide or PVD tools, low surface speed (25–45 m/min), heavy positive-pressure flood coolant, and never dwell in the cut.
Can Ti Grade 29 be welded?
Excellent GTAW/EBW/laser weldability with matching Gr.29 filler, but weld and heat-affected zone must be fully shielded/trailed with argon below 425 °C to avoid oxygen and hydrogen pickup.
Can Ti Grade 29 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold formability is limited (large bend radii, high springback); hot form or size at 590–760 °C, then stress relieve.

What surface finishes work on Ti Grade 29?
Pickle in HNO₃/HF to remove alpha case after hot work; colour anodising or a nitride/DLC coat is used for identification and anti-galling — do not plate with cadmium or expose to hot chlorides during cleaning.
