What is PEEK-GF30?

PEEK-GF30 is polyetheretherketone reinforced with 30% short glass fiber, giving 165 MPa tensile strength, 2.5% elongation and a 260 °C service temperature. It is selected over unfilled PEEK for stiffness, creep resistance and dimensional stability in hot, loaded parts, and is available as injection, extrusion, high-flow, FDA, GF30-PTFE and black heat-stabilized conditions in stock shapes and moulded components. The costs are low ductility, a rougher surface, abrasive wear on tooling (machinability score 45) and anisotropic shrinkage. Unfilled PEEK is the alternative where toughness, surface finish or a cleaner machined edge matters more. PEEK-GF30 has a density of 1.51 g/cm³ (0.0546 lb/in³), heavier than 88% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 143°C (289 °F). PEEK-GF30 has a tensile strength of 165 MPa (23.9 ksi), stronger than 97% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 2.5% and the elastic modulus is 10 GPa (1.45 Msi).

Working with PEEK-GF30

Is PEEK-GF30 easy to machine?

Turns, mills and drills dry, but the glass fiber is highly abrasive — use PCD or coated carbide tooling with sharp rake angles, high speed and low feed. Internal stress causes post-machining distortion; annealing at 200 °C is recommended.

Can PEEK-GF30 be welded?

Not solvent bondable. Ultrasonic, infrared, laser and hot-plate welding are possible, but knit lines and welds are markedly weaker than the base material because of fiber orientation, so use threaded fasteners or inserts for load-bearing joints.

Can PEEK-GF30 be formed, bent or molded?

Injection mould with a barrel around 380 °C and a tool at 180–200 °C to develop crystallinity. Dry at least 3 h at 150 °C to below 0.02% moisture, use large gates and runners to limit fiber breakage, and compensate anisotropic shrinkage in the tool.

What surface finishes work on PEEK-GF30?

Natural colour is light brown to grey-white, and the surface is rough where glass fiber is exposed. Blasting and plasma treatment improve coating adhesion; direct plating is not possible and polishing gives limited improvement.

How much does PEEK-GF30 cost?

PEEK-GF30 is a high-cost polymer ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.

PEEK-GF30 — frequently asked

What is PEEK-GF30 used for?

What is the tensile strength of PEEK-GF30?

PEEK-GF30 has a typical tensile strength of 165 MPa (23.9 ksi) — stronger than 97% of polymer grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is PEEK-GF30 easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (45/100, worse than 78% of polymer grades).

With care — weldability is rated fair (35/100). Not solvent bondable. Ultrasonic, infrared, laser and hot-plate welding are possible, but knit lines and welds are markedly weaker than the base material because of fiber orientation, so use threaded fasteners or inserts for load-bearing joints.
