What is Laperos?
Laperos is a liquid-crystal polymer brand from Polyplastics, supplied unfilled and in glass (GF15-GF40), mineral, glass/mineral, carbon, high-heat, high-flow, FR V-0, ESD, low-dielectric and lubricated grades. It is used extensively in East Asian electronics manufacturing for high-flow, thin-wall, SMT-compatible molded parts, with 1.61 g/cm3 density, 165 MPa tensile strength, 2.5 % elongation, 14 GPa modulus, 220 C maximum service temperature and a machinability score of 40. Transverse shrinkage is 4-8 times flow-direction shrinkage and welded joints are impractical, so parts are designed for molded-in features and snap fits. Sumikasuper is the closest equivalent. Laperos has a density of 1.61 g/cm³ (0.0582 lb/in³), heavier than 93% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 120°C (248 °F). Laperos has a tensile strength of 165 MPa (23.9 ksi), stronger than 97% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 2.5% and the elastic modulus is 14 GPa (2.03 Msi).

Working with Laperos
Is Laperos easy to machine?
Machines cleanly but is abrasive and prone to skin delamination and chipping — use sharp carbide/diamond tooling, high speed, light feed and support thin walls; molded-in features are preferred to machining.
Can Laperos be welded?
Not solvent- or hot-plate weldable in practice; laser and ultrasonic welding work only with joint design allowing for very weak, highly oriented weld interfaces — snap-fits, insert molding and adhesive-free press fits are the norm.
Can Laperos be formed, bent or molded?
Dry 3–4 h at 130–150 °C, melt 290–330 °C (high-heat series 340–390 °C), mold 60–130 °C, very fast injection with generous venting; design for near-zero flow shrinkage but 4–8× higher transverse shrinkage and place gates to control weld lines.

What surface finishes work on Laperos?
Accepts vacuum metallization, sputtering, LDS/laser-activated plating and reflow soldering directly; painting and adhesive bonding need plasma or corona pre-treatment because the surface is chemically inert and fibrous.
