What is Torlon 7130?
Torlon 7130 is a carbon-fibre reinforced polyamide-imide internally lubricated with graphite and PTFE, supplied post-cured, as-moulded or extruded. With 203 MPa tensile strength, 22.4 GPa modulus, 6% elongation and 250 °C continuous service, it is used for bearings and seals that must run without external lubrication in aerospace and industrial equipment. Elongation is low, the compound is abrasive to tooling (machinability 45), and the staged multi-day post-cure to 260 °C adds lead time and cost. Torlon 4301 is the alternative when lower stiffness and easier machining are acceptable. Torlon 7130 has a density of 1.48 g/cm³ (0.0535 lb/in³), heavier than 87% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 275°C (527 °F). Torlon 7130 has a tensile strength of 203 MPa (29.4 ksi), stronger than 99% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 6% and the elastic modulus is 22.4 GPa (3.25 Msi).

Working with Torlon 7130
Is Torlon 7130 easy to machine?
Machine fully post-cured stock with sharp PCD or fine-grain carbide, high speed and light feeds; carbon fiber is very abrasive and dry cutting or air/mist cooling avoids moisture pickup before final cure.
Can Torlon 7130 be welded?
Not melt-weldable in practice; join by epoxy or PAI-compatible adhesive, threaded inserts or mechanical fasteners with generous bosses.
Can Torlon 7130 be formed, bent or molded?
Injection mold at 335–360 °C melt / 200–230 °C mold with dried resin (<0.05 % moisture), then run the multi-day staged post-cure to ~260 °C to develop rated properties.

What surface finishes work on Torlon 7130?
Parts are self-colored dark grey/black; no plating or anodizing — surfaces are typically left as-machined, lightly bead-blasted or lapped for seal faces.
How much does Torlon 7130 cost?
Torlon 7130 is a high-cost polymer ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
