What is 4115?
4115 is a higher-strength Al-Si-Mn-Mg-Cu wrought alloy (EN AW-4115, AlSi2MnMgCu) rolled as brazing sheet core in O, H12–H18 and H26 tempers. It is used where post-braze mechanical strength must exceed that of a standard 3000-series core: default values are 130 MPa tensile, 55 MPa yield, 25% elongation, 38 HB, 175 W/m·K, 44% IACS, a 200 °C service limit and a formability score of 90. The Cu addition lowers corrosion resistance (score 47), so a sacrificial clad layer or coating is needed, and with a solidus near 600 °C and weldability of 55 it is joined by brazing rather than fusion welding. Where corrosion resistance outranks strength, use 4015. 4115 has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0979 lb/in³), heavier than 51% of aluminum grades. It melts at 600°C (1,112 °F). 4115 has a yield strength of 55 MPa (7.98 ksi) and a tensile strength of 130 MPa (18.9 ksi) — weaker than 94% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with 4115
Is 4115 easy to machine?
Machines like a soft Al-Mn sheet but the Si particles are abrasive — use PCD or polished-flute carbide, high speed, low feed and flood coolant to avoid built-up edge in O temper.
Can 4115 be welded?
GTAW/GMAW with 4043 filler is possible on bare core, but the ~600 °C solidus and clad braze layers mean joining is normally done by CAB (NOCOLOK) brazing rather than fusion welding.
Can 4115 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in O/H12; stamped and roll-formed as brazing sheet, with H14–H18 reserved for shallow forming and sag resistance during the braze cycle.

What surface finishes work on 4115?
Anodizes grey/dull because of Si; for service protection rely on the sacrificial clad layer, Zn-arc spray, chromate-free conversion coating or e-coat rather than decorative anodising or polishing.

Is 4115 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (35/100, worse than 86% of aluminum grades). Machines like a soft Al-Mn sheet but the Si particles are abrasive — use PCD or polished-flute carbide, high speed, low feed and flood coolant to avoid built-up edge in O temper.
Can 4115 be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated good (55/100). GTAW/GMAW with 4043 filler is possible on bare core, but the ~600 °C solidus and clad braze layers mean joining is normally done by CAB (NOCOLOK) brazing rather than fusion welding.
