What is 1.4529?
1.4529 (X1NiCrMoCuN25-20-7 / N08926, also sold as Alloy 926, Cronifer 1925hMo or 254N) is a high-molybdenum, copper- and nitrogen-bearing superaustenitic stainless supplied solution annealed (AT), cold drawn and in 1/4H, 1/2H and FH tempers. It is chosen where 316L and 904L are insufficient against chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, with solution-annealed values of 350 MPa yield, 700 MPa tensile, 45% elongation and 190 HB (90 HRB). Machining is difficult, welding needs overalloyed Ni-base filler, service is listed to 400 °C, and cost and lead time sit well above 316L. 1.4529 has a density of 8.1 g/cm³ (0.293 lb/in³), heavier than 99% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,320°C (2,408 °F). 1.4529 has a yield strength of 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 700 MPa (102 ksi) — weaker than 52% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 195 GPa (28.3 Msi).

Working with 1.4529
Is 1.4529 easy to machine?
Very gummy and strongly work hardening — use rigid setups, positive-rake carbide/coated inserts, ~25–40 m/min cutting speed, heavy feeds to stay under the hardened layer, and copious high-pressure coolant.
Can 1.4529 be welded?
Weld with overalloyed Ni-base filler (ERNiCrMo-3/625 or ERNiCrMo-4/C-276) to avoid Mo depletion in the dendrite cores; low heat input, interpass <100 °C, no preheat, no PWHT, and pickle/passivate all heat tint.
Can 1.4529 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms readily but needs ~50% higher press loads than 304 and generous springback allowance; hot work at 1150–1180 °C followed by mandatory solution anneal and water quench.
