What is 1.4563?
1.4563 (X1NiCrMoCu31-27-4, N08031, Alloy 31 / Nicrofer 3127hMo) is a high-nickel superaustenitic stainless steel with chromium, molybdenum and copper, used as an upgrade from 904L and 1.4529 (926) in hot sulfuric and phosphoric acid and in chloride pitting service. Solution-annealed properties are about 330 MPa yield, 700 MPa tensile, 50 % elongation and 170 HB, with a corrosion resistance score of 92 and service to 400 °C, in 1D plate, 2B sheet, cold-drawn bar and cold-worked product. Machinability is the main constraint (score 22) and nickel-base filler is mandatory, so specify 904L where the acid duty allows. 1.4563 has a density of 8.02 g/cm³ (0.29 lb/in³), heavier than 97% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,320°C (2,408 °F). 1.4563 has a yield strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 700 MPa (102 ksi) — weaker than 57% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 50% and the elastic modulus is 195 GPa (28.3 Msi).

Working with 1.4563
Is 1.4563 easy to machine?
Very gummy and strongly work hardening — use rigid setups, positive-rake sharp carbide, low speed with heavy feed, never dwell, and flood high-pressure coolant.
Can 1.4563 be welded?
Weld with GTAW/GMAW/SMAW using overalloyed Ni-base filler (ERNiCrMo-3/-4 or matching 31 filler), low heat input, interpass <150 °C, no preheat, backing gas on root; PWHT normally not required.
Can 1.4563 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but needs ~50 % more force than 316L and generous springback allowance; hot work 1150–900 °C followed by solution anneal at ~1150–1180 °C and rapid quench.
