High-temperature solution anneal (≈1150 °C) for coarse grain / creep… | Chosen when maximum creep-rupture life above 800 °C matters more than room-temperature ductility or fatigue. | 500 | 960 | 55 | 190 HB | 1.4 % IACS |
SADefault Solution annealed | Standard mill-supplied condition for sheet, plate, bar and tube; softest and most formable/weldable state, aged after fabrication. | 550 | 1,010 | 55 | 200 HB | — |
As-welded deposit | Joint condition before post-weld age; 282 tolerates direct aging without strain-age cracking, unlike Waspaloy/R-41. | 560 | 980 | 35 | 205 HB | 1.4 % IACS |
Hot rolled | Intermediate mill condition for heavy plate and billet; normally re-solution annealed before use. | 640 | 1,060 | 40 | 21 HRC | 1.4 % IACS |
investment cast, HIPed and two-step aged | For complex turbine casings/manifolds where wrought forms are impractical; HIP closes porosity but ductility is lower than wrought. | 680 | 950 | 12 | 32 HRC | 1.4 % IACS |
Welded then direct two-step aged | Preferred route for fabricated combustor/exhaust structures: weld in the annealed state, then age the whole assembly. | 700 | 1,120 | 22 | 32 HRC | 1.4 % IACS |
Solution treated and aged | Standard service condition after forming/welding — full γ′ strengthening for creep-loaded turbine hardware. | 720 | 1,150 | 30 | 33 HRC | — |
Cold worked | Used for fastener wire and precision bar where higher as-supplied strength and tight tolerance are needed before aging. | 900 | 1,150 | 20 | 30 HRC | 1.4 % IACS |

What is Haynes 282?
Haynes 282 is a gamma-prime strengthened Ni-Co-Cr-Mo-Ti-Al superalloy (N07208) whose low combined Ti+Al level keeps it fabricable. It pairs creep strength to 850 °C with a weldability score of 88 and is supplied as sheet, plate, bar, forgings, HIP castings and laser powder bed fusion parts in solution-annealed, aged and as-welded conditions; solution-annealed values are 550 MPa yield, 1010 MPa tensile, 55% elongation and 200 HB (92 HRB). Machinability is still low (20) and cost is high; alloy 718 is the lower-cost alternative where service stays well below 850 °C. Haynes 282 has a density of 8.27 g/cm³ (0.299 lb/in³), lighter than 56% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,300°C (2,372 °F). Working with Haynes 282
Is Haynes 282 easy to machine?
Machine in the solution-annealed state with rigid setups, positive-rake carbide or ceramic tooling, low surface speed, heavy constant feed and flood coolant; aged material work-hardens fast and is best finished by grinding/EDM.
Can Haynes 282 be welded?
Excellent GTAW/PAW/EBW/laser weldability with matching 282 filler — the low Ti+Al level makes it highly resistant to post-weld strain-age cracking, so assemblies can be welded annealed and then directly aged.
Can Haynes 282 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms readily as annealed sheet (deep drawing, spinning, roll forming) with intermediate anneals at ~1120–1150 °C; hot work in the 1050–1180 °C range and always re-solution anneal before aging.

What surface finishes work on Haynes 282?
Pickle/grit-blast to remove Cr-rich oxide after annealing, then passivate or electropolish; for extreme hot-gas service apply aluminide diffusion or MCrAlY/TBC coatings — anodizing does not apply.
