What is PC/PET?
PC/PET is an alloy of polycarbonate with polyethylene terephthalate that adds chemical resistance and surface hardness to PC while keeping most of its impact strength. The unfilled condition provides 55 MPa tensile strength and about 120 % elongation, and the grade list covers high-impact, GF10–GF30, mineral-filled, FR, UV, high-heat and PCR variants for injection-molded trim and housings. The blend is opaque, requires drying to avoid hydrolytic degradation, and tolerates only limited solvent exposure during bonding; PC/PBT is the nearest alternative and is generally preferred for large painted exterior panels. PC/PET has a density of 1.22 g/cm³ (0.0441 lb/in³), heavier than 61% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 140°C (284 °F). PC/PET has a yield strength of 53 MPa (7.69 ksi) and a tensile strength of 55 MPa (7.98 ksi) — stronger than 59% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 120% and the elastic modulus is 2.1 GPa (0.305 Msi).

Working with PC/PET
Is PC/PET easy to machine?
Machines like PC but with less gumming; use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and low feed with air cooling, and avoid coolants containing esters or amines.
Can PC/PET be welded?
Excellent ultrasonic, vibration and hot-plate welding; solvent bonding is limited — use polyurethane or epoxy adhesives instead.
Can PC/PET be formed, bent or molded?
Injection mold at 250–285 °C melt / 55–95 °C tool after drying 3–4 h at 100–110 °C to <0.02 % moisture; overheating or wet feed causes hydrolysis, splay and severe property loss.

Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| bisphenol-A polycarbonate (PC)continuous amorphous phase | 45 – 70 | 60 |
| poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)semi-crystalline phase giving chemical resistance | 20 – 45 | 30 |
| core-shell impact modifier (MBS/acrylic) | 3 – 12 | 7 |
| transesterification inhibitor / stabilizphosphite-type, critical for phase stability | 0.2 – 1.5 | 0.8 |
| glass fiber or mineral filleronly in reinforced variants | 0 – 30 | 0 |
What surface finishes work on PC/PET?
Readily painted and e-coated (a key reason for the alloy); textures, vacuum metallizing and pad printing are fine, but avoid aggressive solvent primers on unpainted stressed parts.
How much does PC/PET cost?
PC/PET is a premium-cost polymer ($$$), cheaper than about 51% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
PC/PET — frequently asked

Is PC/PET easy to machine?
Reasonably — machinability is rated good (60/100, better than 51% of polymer grades). Machines like PC but with less gumming; use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and low feed with air cooling, and avoid coolants containing esters or amines.
Can PC/PET be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated very good (70/100). Excellent ultrasonic, vibration and hot-plate welding; solvent bonding is limited — use polyurethane or epoxy adhesives instead.
