What is PA6-3-T?

PA6-3-T (Trogamid CX/T, Evonik) is an amorphous transparent polyamide supplied natural, UV-stabilized, impact-modified, medical, 30% glass-filled and as extruded sheet. It is chosen where nylon toughness and chemical resistance must be combined with optical clarity, offering 80 MPa tensile strength, 70% elongation, a 2.9 GPa modulus and service to 110 C, with low isotropic shrinkage from the amorphous structure. It is less stiff and less heat-resistant than filled semicrystalline nylons and can stress-craze in solvent contact; PC is the usual alternative. PA6-3-T has a density of 1.12 g/cm³ (0.0405 lb/in³), lighter than 64% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 150°C (302 °F). PA6-3-T has a yield strength of 78 MPa (11.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 80 MPa (11.6 ksi) — stronger than 86% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 70% and the elastic modulus is 2.9 GPa (0.421 Msi).

Working with PA6-3-T

Is PA6-3-T easy to machine?

Machines cleanly with sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and low feed; use air or mist cooling and anneal (~120 °C) before finishing to avoid stress crazing in clear parts.

Can PA6-3-T be welded?

Joinable by ultrasonic, hot-plate, vibration and laser welding; solvent bonding is possible but risks stress cracking — prefer adhesive or welded joints on stressed clear parts.

Can PA6-3-T be formed, bent or molded?

Dry pellets to <0.05 % moisture (80 °C, 4–6 h), melt 250–290 °C, mold 60–110 °C; hot molds and low shear give best clarity, and shrinkage is low and isotropic because the polymer is amorphous.

What surface finishes work on PA6-3-T?

Takes optical polishing, hard/anti-fog coatings and pad printing well; avoid alcohol-based cleaners and solvent-heavy paints on stressed surfaces.

How much does PA6-3-T cost?

PA6-3-T is a high-cost polymer ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
