What is CPVC 4120?
CPVC 4120 is a chlorinated PVC compound to ASTM D1784 cell class 23447, formulated for hot and cold water distribution and fire-sprinkler pipe. The added chlorine lifts the maximum service temperature to 93 °C while keeping solvent-cement jointing, 55 MPa tensile strength, a 3 GPa modulus and 25 % elongation; CTS hot-water, Schedule 80 industrial, impact-modified, 20 % glass-filled, 5VA and UV-stabilised versions are catalogued. It costs more than PVC-U, is attacked by plasticised vinyl, ammonia-based sealants and petroleum cutting oils, and must never be joined with PVC cement or PVC rod. PVC 1120 is the cold-water alternative. CPVC 4120 has a density of 1.53 g/cm³ (0.0553 lb/in³), heavier than 89% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 120°C (248 °F). CPVC 4120 has a yield strength of 52 MPa (7.54 ksi) and a tensile strength of 55 MPa (7.98 ksi) — stronger than 56% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 3 GPa (0.435 Msi).

Working with CPVC 4120
Is CPVC 4120 easy to machine?
Machines easily with sharp, high-rake carbide or HSS tools at moderate speed and generous chip clearance; use air or water-soluble coolant (no petroleum cutting oils) and avoid frictional heat that causes local degradation/HCl release.
Can CPVC 4120 be welded?
Joined mainly by two-step CPVC primer + solvent cement (ASTM F493) or threaded/flanged connections; hot-gas and hot-plate welding with CPVC rod work for sheet/duct but never use PVC cement or PVC rod.
Can CPVC 4120 be formed, bent or molded?
Extrude/mold at 185–215 °C melt with corrosion-resistant (Hastelloy/nitrided) screws and dies, no dead spots, and purge with PE at shutdown; sheet thermoforms at 130–155 °C, cold bending is not recommended.
