What is Ni Briquette?
Ni Briquette is high-purity electrolytic nickel of LME-deliverable grade, supplied as briquettes and pellets for melt-shop alloy additions and for trading. Purities on file run from Ni9950 to Ni9999, with full and cut cathode, pellet and powder as alternative forms. Reference values for the consolidated metal are 420 MPa tensile strength, 90 HB and 24 % IACS electrical conductivity. It costs considerably more per nickel unit than ferronickel, so it is specified when carbon, sulphur and iron pickup must stay minimal, such as superalloy and plating work. Ni Briquette has a density of 8.9 g/cm³ (0.322 lb/in³), heavier than 91% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,455°C (2,651 °F). Ni Briquette has a yield strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) — weaker than 97% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with Ni Briquette
Is Ni Briquette easy to machine?
Not machined as supplied; consolidated pure nickel is gummy and work-hardens — use sharp positive-rake tools, heavy feed, low speed and flood coolant.
Can Ni Briquette be welded?
Very low sulphur makes it weld-friendly; when melted into alloys keep it dry and oil-free to avoid porosity, and use Ni-filler (ERNi-1) for wrought nickel joints.
Can Ni Briquette be formed, bent or molded?
Feedstock form — charge into EAF/AOD/VIM or dissolve in plating/sulphate baths; briquette size gives fast, predictable dissolution and accurate weighing.

What surface finishes work on Ni Briquette?
Not anodizable; nickel itself is the plating/electroforming anode metal. Store dry and sealed — briquettes oxidise/tarnish and pick up moisture in humid warehouses.
