What is T800H?
T800H is an intermediate-modulus, very high strength PAN carbon fiber with 5490 MPa tensile strength, 294 GPa modulus, 1.9 % elongation and 1.81 g/cm³ density, used in primary aircraft structure. It is supplied as 6K and 12K tow with 10E, 40B and 50B sizings, and as UD epoxy, UD BMI, fabric epoxy and thermoplastic tape prepreg for autoclave, AFP and RTM processing. Cost, qualification lead time and controlled availability are the practical limits, and its abrasiveness gives a machinability score of 18, so cured parts need diamond tooling. T700S is the lower-cost option where 230 GPa modulus is acceptable. T800H has a density of 1.81 g/cm³ (0.0654 lb/in³), heavier than 62% of composite grades. T800H has a tensile strength of 5,490 MPa (796 ksi), stronger than 97% of composite grades. Elongation at break is 1.9% and the elastic modulus is 294 GPa (42.6 Msi).

Working with T800H
Is T800H easy to machine?
Extremely abrasive and delamination-prone — use PCD or diamond-coated compression routers, high rpm/low feed, backing plates on drill exit, and HEPA extraction for conductive dust.
Can T800H be welded?
Not weldable in epoxy/BMI form; thermoplastic (PEEK/PEKK) tape versions can be resistance-, induction- or ultrasonically welded.
Can T800H be formed, bent or molded?
Laid up as UD or fabric prepreg and autoclave-cured at 177 °C/6–7 bar (epoxy) or 190–230 °C post-cure (BMI); also filament winding, RTM and AFP with slit tape.
