T700S / epoxy unidirectional laminate
Use these cured unidirectional prepreg values (Vf ~ 60 %, 2450 MPa and 132 GPa at 0°, Tg 125 °C) for sizing spars, skins and rods; off-axis and transverse properties are far lower.2,4501.7

12K tow, 50C sizing

60E sizing
Use 60E sizing when wet filament winding or pultruding with epoxy or vinyl-ester resins; sizing level and tow spreading are tuned for wet processes rather than for prepreg lines.4,9002.1
F0E sizing
Pick F0E sizing for the fastest resin wet-out in high-speed wet winding of CNG and hydrogen cylinders; use 60E or 50C instead for pultrusion or prepreg impregnation.4,9002.1

What is T700S?

T700S is a high-strength PAN-based carbon fiber offering 4900 MPa tensile strength and 2.1 % elongation at the same 230 GPa modulus as T300, at a density of 1.8 g/cm³. It is the standard choice for filament-wound pressure vessels and structural prepregs, supplied as 12K-50C and 24K-50C tows, 60E and F0E sizings, UD and fabric epoxy prepreg, and winding-grade product. Modulus is unchanged from standard-modulus fiber, so stiffness-driven designs gain nothing; laminates are not weldable and need galvanic isolation from aluminium and steel. Move to T800H when intermediate modulus is required. T700S has a density of 1.8 g/cm³ (0.065 lb/in³), heavier than 59% of composite grades. T700S has a tensile strength of 4,900 MPa (711 ksi), stronger than 95% of composite grades. Elongation at break is 2.1% and the elastic modulus is 230 GPa (33.4 Msi).

What is T700S used for?

Working with T700S

Is T700S easy to machine?

Cured parts need PCD or diamond-coated tooling at high spindle speed and low feed, with dust extraction and backing support to prevent delamination and burrs. Use ceramic yarn guides on dry tow to avoid fuzzing.

Can T700S be welded?

Not weldable; joints rely on adhesive bonding, co-curing or mechanical fastening. Use titanium or stainless fasteners with an insulating layer to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Can T700S be formed, bent or molded?

Common routes are wet or dry filament winding, prepreg autoclave or press cure at 120–180 °C, RTM and pultrusion. Winding tension and resin wet-out time are the critical process parameters.
