Plain/twill woven fabric epoxy laminate, Vf ≈ 55% (warp)
Pick the 3K/12K woven prepreg laminate for shells, panels and visible parts where balanced biaxial properties and drape over curvature matter more than peak 0° stiffness.8501.4
Unidirectional BMI / high-Tg matrix laminate
Choose the BMI matrix when the laminate must serve continuously at 180–230 °C, as in engine nacelles and high-speed vehicle skins; Tg 280 °C comes with a higher cure temperature.2,3001.6
Unidirectional epoxy laminate, Vf ≈ 60%
Most common laminate form: use the Vf ≈ 60% unidirectional layup for aircraft and UAV primary structure and design to the quoted 0° properties, since transverse strength is resin-limited.2,4501.7
Filament-wound epoxy composite (NOL ring / hoop direction)
Use these wet-wound hoop values, measured by NOL ring test, when sizing high-pressure gas cylinders and rocket motor cases; the epoxy limits service to 110 °C.2,5001.8

What is CCF700?

CCF700 is a high-strength PAN-based carbon fiber of the T700 class, supplied as 12K and 24K tow, the CCF700S variant, UD and plain-weave epoxy prepreg, UD BMI prepreg and filament-winding grades for vessels. It is chosen for 4900 MPa tensile strength, 2.1 % elongation and 230 GPa modulus at 1.8 g/cm3, with fiber stability to 350 °C, and is widely used for wound pressure vessels. The fiber is abrasive (machinability score 25), laminates are not weldable and the epoxy matrix sets the working temperature. CCF300/T300 is the lower-cost standard grade; HTS40 is an equivalent-class alternative. CCF700 has a density of 1.8 g/cm³ (0.065 lb/in³), heavier than 59% of composite grades. CCF700 has a tensile strength of 4,900 MPa (711 ksi), stronger than 95% of composite grades. Elongation at break is 2.1% and the elastic modulus is 230 GPa (33.4 Msi).

Working with CCF700

Is CCF700 easy to machine?

Machine only with diamond-coated or PCD tooling at high speed and small feed. Use backing plates to prevent delamination and extract dust under negative pressure, since conductive dust can short electrical equipment.

Can CCF700 be welded?

Not weldable; join by structural epoxy adhesive bonding or mechanical fasteners. Use titanium or stainless fasteners with insulating washers to avoid galvanic corrosion.

Can CCF700 be formed, bent or molded?

Dry fiber is wound, braided or fiber-placed; prepreg is cured in an autoclave at 0.3–0.6 MPa and 120–180 °C, or press moulded, RTM or vacuum infused. Fix fiber orientation and fiber volume fraction by ply sequence before cure.

What surface finishes work on CCF700?

Sand the surface and apply primer or clear coat for UV protection. A surface veil or adhesive film improves appearance, and any exposed fiber should be sealed with additional resin.
