What is XPS 700?
GB/T 10801.2 XPS700 is the highest-strength grade in the standard extruded polystyrene range, rated at 700 kPa compressive strength with a declared thermal conductivity of 0.030 W/(m·K). It is specified for structural fill and insulation under heavy pavements, including airport pavements, and is supplied as extruded board in B1 or B2 fire classes, CO2-blown or graphite-modified. Thickness and edge profile are fixed on the extrusion line, it cannot be welded, and it needs protection from UV, bitumen and solvent-borne coatings. XPS500 is the lower-cost option when 700 kPa is not required. XPS 700 has a density of 0.05 g/cm³ (0.0017 lb/in³), lighter than 89% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 100°C (212 °F). XPS 700 has a tensile strength of 0.65 MPa (0.0943 ksi), weaker than 86% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 3% and the elastic modulus is 0.03 GPa (0.0044 Msi).

Working with XPS 700
Is XPS 700 easy to machine?
Cuts cleanly with hot wire, hot knife, fine-tooth band saw or CNC router at high feed; keep tools cool to avoid melt smear and use dust extraction.
Can XPS 700 be welded?
No practical structural welding; joints are shiplap/tongue-and-groove plus PS-compatible (solvent-free) adhesive or mechanical fixings.
Can XPS 700 be formed, bent or molded?
Supplied as extruded board only — thickness and edge profile (square edge, shiplap or tongue-and-groove) are set on the extrusion line; field shaping is by cutting, not forming.
