What is GPPS HF?
GPPS HF is GPPS in the HF grade — pick for thin-wall, long-flow or multi-cavity moldings where fill pressure matters more than strength. GPPS HF has a tensile strength of 42 MPa (6.09 ksi), weaker than 55% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 2% and the elastic modulus is 3.1 GPa (0.442 Msi). GPPS HF has a density of 1.05 g/cm³ (0.0379 lb/in³), lighter than 69% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 100°C (212 °F).
Advantages

- Low moisture uptake — 0.04%, better than 86% of polymer grades
- Low embodied carbon — 3.4 kg CO₂/kg, better than 76% of polymer grades
Limitations
- Limited ductility — 2%, worse than 95% of polymer grades

Working with GPPS HF
Is GPPS easy to machine?
Machines easily at high speed with sharp, positive-rake, polished tools and air cooling — but is notch-sensitive and crazes; avoid cutting fluids containing solvents and always drill with slow feed to prevent cracking.
Can GPPS be welded?
Excellent for ultrasonic, hot-plate/spin welding and solvent bonding (toluene/MEK-based or cyanoacrylate); solvent joints must be stress-relieved to avoid crazing.
Can GPPS be formed, bent or molded?
Very easy injection molding at 190–250 °C melt / 20–70 °C mold with 0.3–0.7 % shrinkage; extruded sheet thermoforms cleanly, but drying is unnecessary and over-shear causes yellowing and monomer odor.
What surface finishes work on GPPS?
Reproduces high-gloss mold surfaces directly; accepts vacuum metallizing, hot stamping and UV/hard-coating, but solvent-based paints and adhesive tapes readily stress-crack the part.

GPPS HF — frequently asked
What is GPPS HF used for?
GPPS HF is typically used for disposable cutlery/cups, CD/DVD cases, packaging trays, toys and lab ware. In short: cheapest clear thermoplastic; easiest styrenic to mold; brittle and solvent-sensitive.
What is the tensile strength of GPPS HF?
GPPS HF has a typical tensile strength of 42 MPa (6.09 ksi) — weaker than 55% of polymer grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 5 listed tempers.
Is GPPS HF easy to machine?
Reasonably — machinability is rated good (55/100, worse than 64% of polymer grades). Machines easily at high speed with sharp, positive-rake, polished tools and air cooling — but is notch-sensitive and crazes; avoid cutting fluids containing solvents and always drill with slow feed to prevent cracking.
Can GPPS HF be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated good (55/100). Excellent for ultrasonic, hot-plate/spin welding and solvent bonding (toluene/MEK-based or cyanoacrylate); solvent joints must be stress-relieved to avoid crazing.
What surface finishes work on GPPS HF?
Reproduces high-gloss mold surfaces directly; accepts vacuum metallizing, hot stamping and UV/hard-coating, but solvent-based paints and adhesive tapes readily stress-crack the part.
Can GPPS HF be formed, bent or molded?
Very easy injection molding at 190–250 °C melt / 20–70 °C mold with 0.3–0.7 % shrinkage; extruded sheet thermoforms cleanly, but drying is unnecessary and over-shear causes yellowing and monomer odor.
What is the maximum service temperature of GPPS HF?
GPPS HF is rated for continuous use to about 60°C (140 °F), and briefly to 80°C. Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
