Working with N08026-AW
Is N08026 easy to machine?
Treat as a nickel alloy: rigid setups, positive-rake sharp carbide, 20–35 m/min surface speed, heavy constant feed and flood coolant to avoid work-hardened glazing.
Can N08026 be welded?
Weld with GTAW/GMAW/SMAW using overalloyed Ni-Cr-Mo filler (ERNiCrMo-3/-4); keep interpass below ~150 °C and heat input low, no preheat, no PWHT required.
Can N08026 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but work-hardens rapidly — allow 40–60% more press force than 304 and interstage anneal at 1120–1180 °C with rapid quench; hot work 1100–1200 °C then solution anneal.
What surface finishes work on N08026?
Pickle in HNO3-HF and passivate (ASTM A967) after hot work or welding; electropolishing gives best pitting performance in process service — do not anodize.

N08026-AW — frequently asked
What is N08026-AW used for?
N08026-AW is typically used for hot sulfuric acid service, chemical process piping and pumps, flue gas desulfurization components and phosphoric acid production equipment. In short: highest-Mo Alloy 20 type; hot sulfuric acid grade; work-hardens like nickel alloy.
What is the yield strength of N08026-AW?
N08026-AW has a typical yield strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 600 MPa (87 ksi) — weaker than 57% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.
Is N08026-AW easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated poor (24/100, worse than 93% of stainless steel grades). Treat as a nickel alloy: rigid setups, positive-rake sharp carbide, 20–35 m/min surface speed, heavy constant feed and flood coolant to avoid work-hardened glazing.
Can N08026-AW be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated very good (72/100). Weld with GTAW/GMAW/SMAW using overalloyed Ni-Cr-Mo filler (ERNiCrMo-3/-4); keep interpass below ~150 °C and heat input low, no preheat, no PWHT required.
What surface finishes work on N08026-AW?
Pickle in HNO3-HF and passivate (ASTM A967) after hot work or welding; electropolishing gives best pitting performance in process service — do not anodize.
Can N08026-AW be formed, bent or molded?
