Working with Rene 95 C+W
Is Rene 95 easy to machine?
Very difficult: use rigid setups, whisker/SiAlON or coated-carbide inserts, low surface speeds (20–35 m/min carbide), heavy flood coolant, and control residual stress/white layer on fatigue-critical surfaces.
Can Rene 95 be welded?
Effectively non-weldable by fusion due to ~3.5 Al + 2.5 Ti strain-age cracking; repairs limited to specialised diffusion/braze or solid-state (inertia/linear friction) joining with post-bond heat treatment.
Can Rene 95 be formed, bent or molded?
No cold forming — the alloy is shaped by HIP of pre-alloyed powder, extrusion and isothermal forging near 1100 °C at low strain rates in the sub-solvus window.
What surface finishes work on Rene 95?
Shot-peen or low-plasticity burnish fatigue-critical surfaces; can be diffusion-coated or aluminised for oxidation, and takes a fine mechanical/electrolytic polish; no anodising.

Rene 95 C+W — frequently asked
What is Rene 95 C+W used for?
Rene 95 C+W is typically used for turbine disks, aerospace rotating hardware, compressor disks and spacers, blisks and rotor hubs, seal rings and retaining rings and shaft and coupling components for gas turbines. In short: highest-strength PM disk alloy; sub-solvus isothermal forging; 650 °C service limit.
What is the yield strength of Rene 95 C+W?
Rene 95 C+W has a typical yield strength of 1,200 MPa (174 ksi) and a tensile strength of 1,570 MPa (228 ksi) — stronger than 98% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 5 listed tempers.
Is Rene 95 C+W easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated not recommended (12/100, worse than 86% of nickel alloy grades). Very difficult: use rigid setups, whisker/SiAlON or coated-carbide inserts, low surface speeds (20–35 m/min carbide), heavy flood coolant, and control residual stress/white layer on fatigue-critical surfaces.
Can Rene 95 C+W be welded?
Not readily — weldability is rated not recommended (8/100). Effectively non-weldable by fusion due to ~3.5 Al + 2.5 Ti strain-age cracking; repairs limited to specialised diffusion/braze or solid-state (inertia/linear friction) joining with post-bond heat treatment.
