Chemical & Environmental3

Corrosion resistance is good (61/100), better than 64% of aluminum grades.

Corrosion ResistanceGood61/100
Chemical Resistance SummaryGood in neutral water, foods and atmosphere thanks to the oxide film; attacked by strong acids and alkalis, by chlorides in stagnant condensate, and by mercury salts. Fe-bearing intermetallics act as cathodes and can cause pinhole pitting in thin foil.

Sustainability4

Producing a kilogram of 8006-H16 takes about 200 MJ of energy and emits 12 kg of CO₂ — less than 60% of aluminum grades. Typical recycled content is 35%.

Working with 8006-H16

Is 8006 easy to machine?

Rarely machined; if slit/blanked, use sharp carbide tooling, high rake and lubricant — the soft matrix with hard Fe-intermetallics burrs easily and abrades edges.

Can 8006 be welded?

Weldable by GTAW/GMAW with 1100 or 4043 filler and by resistance/ultrasonic methods; heat-affected zone reverts to O-temper strength, and foil gauges are normally sealed rather than welded.

Can 8006 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent deep-draw and wall-ironing behaviour, especially in O/H22/H24; the fine Al-Fe-Mn dispersoids give higher elongation and pinhole resistance than 1000 series at equal strength.

What surface finishes work on 8006?

Takes chromate-free conversion coatings, lacquers and PET/PP laminations well; anodizing gives a dark grey non-decorative film, so painted or coated finishes are preferred.

What is 8006-H16 used for?

8006-H16 is typically used for deep-drawn container and tray foil, lidding and sealing foil, heat exchanger fin stock, flexible packaging foil laminates, capacitor foil and clad brazing foil. In short: iron-rich foil base.

What is the yield strength of 8006-H16?

8006-H16 has a typical yield strength of 155 MPa (22.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 175 MPa (25.4 ksi) — weaker than 63% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 11 listed tempers.

Is 8006-H16 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (38/100, worse than 84% of aluminum grades). Rarely machined; if slit/blanked, use sharp carbide tooling, high rake and lubricant — the soft matrix with hard Fe-intermetallics burrs easily and abrades edges.

Can 8006-H16 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (68/100). Weldable by GTAW/GMAW with 1100 or 4043 filler and by resistance/ultrasonic methods; heat-affected zone reverts to O-temper strength, and foil gauges are normally sealed rather than welded.

What surface finishes work on 8006-H16?

Can 8006-H16 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent deep-draw and wall-ironing behaviour, especially in O/H22/H24; the fine Al-Fe-Mn dispersoids give higher elongation and pinhole resistance than 1000 series at equal strength.

What is the maximum service temperature of 8006-H16?

8006-H16 is rated for continuous use to about 110°C (230 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

Can FabDigit make parts in 8006-H16?

Yes — 8006-H16 is available for sheet metal; every part is priced by an engineer rather than instantly. Upload a STEP file to get a price and a DFM check.
