What is SEBS?
SEBS is a hydrogenated styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene block copolymer, the saturated version of SBS, supplied as a compoundable thermoplastic elastomer rather than a rigid styrenic. Hydrogenation removes the residual unsaturation, giving better UV, oxidation and heat stability than SBS at 0.91 g/cm3, 30 MPa tensile strength, 550 % elongation, 0.015 GPa modulus and 85 C maximum service temperature. Compounds are stocked from Shore A 30 to 90 plus oil gel, PP-bonding, PC/ABS-bonding, FR V-0, medical, UV, ESD, clear, foam and highly filled versions for two-shot soft-touch work. It carries no structural load and is not suited to harsh-service SBS replacement in oil or fuel contact; TPV or TPU are the usual step up. SEBS has a density of 0.91 g/cm³ (0.0329 lb/in³), lighter than 80% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is -55°C (-67 °F). SEBS has a tensile strength of 30 MPa (4.35 ksi), weaker than 62% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 550% and the elastic modulus is 0.02 GPa (0.0022 Msi).

Working with SEBS
Is SEBS easy to machine?
Poor — the material smears and deflects; die-cutting, waterjet or cryogenic trimming beats milling, and sharp uncoated blades with air blast are required for any cutting.
Can SEBS be welded?
No solvent or HF welding; hot-plate and ultrasonic joints are weak, so 2K overmolding, heat staking to a rigid substrate, or cyanoacrylate/hot-melt adhesive after plasma treatment is preferred.
Can SEBS be formed, bent or molded?
Injection mold at 190–230 °C melt, 20–50 °C tool, low back pressure and generous gates; dry 2–3 h at 60–70 °C if hygroscopic additives are present, and expect 1–2.5 % shrinkage with 2–3 % typical demold recovery.

What surface finishes work on SEBS?
Cannot be painted or plated reliably without adhesion primer; appearance comes from tool texture, in-mold color masterbatch, or anti-tack/soft-touch surface additives to reduce dust pickup.
How much does SEBS cost?
SEBS is a standard-cost polymer ($$), cheaper than about 71% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
SEBS — frequently asked
