What is MA754?
MA754 (UNS N07754) is a mechanically alloyed nickel-chromium matrix dispersion-strengthened with Y2O3, an oxide-dispersion-strengthened composite that holds creep strength to near its melting point and is rated for service to about 1100 °C. Room-temperature properties in the default condition are 585 MPa yield, 965 MPa tensile, 21% elongation and 149 GPa modulus; stock is bar (longitudinal or transverse) and sheet, usually given a directional recrystallisation anneal for coarse elongated grains. Limits are severe: machinability rates 12, it cannot be fusion welded, properties are strongly anisotropic, and availability and cost are those of a specialty powder product. Cast single-crystal or DS superalloys are the alternative for rotating hardware. MA754 has a density of 8.3 g/cm³ (0.3 lb/in³), heavier than 97% of composite grades. MA754 has a yield strength of 585 MPa (84.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 965 MPa (140 ksi) — stronger than 89% of composite grades. Elongation at break is 21% and the elastic modulus is 149 GPa (21.6 Msi).

Working with MA754
Is MA754 easy to machine?
Very difficult to machine: the Y2O3 dispersoid abrades tooling and the matrix work-hardens strongly. Use solid carbide or ceramic tooling at low speed with heavy feed and copious coolant, or switch to grinding, EDM or electrochemical machining.
Can MA754 be welded?
Not suited to fusion welding — melting breaks up the dispersoid distribution and forms fine equiaxed grains, losing creep strength. Join by diffusion bonding, brazing or mechanical fastening.
Can MA754 be formed, bent or molded?
Produced from mechanically alloyed powder by hot extrusion or hot rolling, then given a directional recrystallisation anneal to develop coarse elongated grains. Formability of finished product is limited and cold forming is effectively not feasible.

Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Cr | 19 – 21 | 20 |
| Ti | 0.3 – 0.6 | 0.5 |
| Al | 0.15 – 0.45 | 0.3 |

| Nibalance, about 78% | balance |
What surface finishes work on MA754?
Can be ground and polished. In service it relies on a self-generated Cr2O3 scale for oxidation resistance; aluminide or MCrAlY coatings can be added where hot-corrosion resistance must be increased.
