Titanium C-23 vs C-9

Titanium · grade comparison

Titanium C-23 and C-9 are both titanium grades. C-23 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 860 MPa (125 ksi) against 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) for C-9, about 56% more; tensile strength follows at 930 MPa (135 ksi) vs 690 MPa (100 ksi). C-23 is harder — 330 HB against 240 HB for C-9 — which matters for wear surfaces and threads. C-23 is stiffer (112 GPa vs 100 GPa) and C-23 runs hotter in service (400°C vs 300°C continuous). On the shop floor, C-23 forms better (poor vs not recommended).

C-23Choose it when strength drives the design, or when surface hardness matters.

C-23 vs C-9 — frequently asked

Is C-23 stronger than C-9?

Yes. C-23 has a typical yield strength of 860 MPa (125 ksi) against 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) for C-9 — about 56% more. Tensile strength is 930 MPa (135 ksi) vs 690 MPa (100 ksi).

Which is cheaper, C-23 or C-9?

Both sit in the same relative cost tier ($$$$, high); the part price will be decided by machining time, tolerance and quantity rather than by the material.

Which is easier to machine, C-23 or C-9?

C-9, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 25/100 against 20/100 for C-23; for welding the order is C-9 first (very good, 80/100) then C-23 (very good, 75/100).
