Titanium C-1 vs C-23

Titanium · grade comparison

Titanium C-1 and C-23 are both titanium grades. C-23 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 860 MPa (125 ksi) against 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) for C-1, about 4.1 times as much; tensile strength follows at 930 MPa (135 ksi) vs 300 MPa (43.5 ksi). In exchange, C-1 is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 12% for C-23, and C-23 is harder (330 HB vs 120 HB). C-23 is stiffer (112 GPa vs 103 GPa) and C-23 runs hotter in service (400°C vs 300°C continuous). On the shop floor, C-1 machines more easily (fair vs poor) and C-1 welds better (excellent vs very good).

C-1Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part is machined in volume.

C-23Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.

C-1 vs C-23 — frequently asked

Is C-23 stronger than C-1?

Yes. C-23 has a typical yield strength of 860 MPa (125 ksi) against 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) for C-1 — about 4.1 times as much. Tensile strength is 930 MPa (135 ksi) vs 300 MPa (43.5 ksi).

Which is cheaper, C-1 or C-23?

Both sit in the same relative cost tier ($$$$, high); the part price will be decided by machining time, tolerance and quantity rather than by the material.

Which is easier to machine, C-1 or C-23?

C-1. Its machinability rates fair (42/100) against poor (20/100) for C-23; for welding the order is C-1 first (excellent, 88/100) then C-23 (very good, 75/100).
