Titanium C-12 vs C-9

Titanium · grade comparison

Titanium C-12 and C-9 are both titanium grades. C-9 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) against 455 MPa (66 ksi) for C-12, about 21% more; tensile strength follows at 690 MPa (100 ksi) vs 560 MPa (81.2 ksi). C-9 is harder — 240 HB against 210 HB for C-12 — which matters for wear surfaces and threads. C-12 conducts heat better (19 W/m·K vs 7.6 W/m·K). On the shop floor, C-12 forms better (poor vs not recommended).

C-9Choose it when strength drives the design, or when surface hardness matters.

C-12 vs C-9 — frequently asked

Is C-9 stronger than C-12?

Yes. C-9 has a typical yield strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) against 455 MPa (66 ksi) for C-12 — about 21% more. Tensile strength is 690 MPa (100 ksi) vs 560 MPa (81.2 ksi).

Which is cheaper, C-12 or C-9?

Both sit in the same relative cost tier ($$$$, high); the part price will be decided by machining time, tolerance and quantity rather than by the material.

Which welds better, C-12 or C-9?

C-12. Its weldability rates excellent (85/100) against very good (80/100) for C-9.
