Steel H21 vs H41
Steel · grade comparison
Steel H21 and H41 are both steel grades. H21 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) against 540 MPa (78.3 ksi) for H41, about 15% more; tensile strength follows at 900 MPa (131 ksi) vs 800 MPa (116 ksi). In exchange, H41 is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 18% for H21. H41 is lighter (7.88 g/cm³ vs 8.28 g/cm³ for H21) and H21 conducts electricity better (3.1 % IACS vs 2.7 % IACS). On the shop floor, H21 welds better (fair vs poor) and H21 sits in a lower cost tier (standard, $$) than H41 (high, $$$$).
H21Choose it when strength drives the design, or when it will be welded.
H41Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when weight is the constraint.
H21 vs H41: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

H21 vs H41 — frequently asked
Is H21 stronger than H41?
Yes. H21 has a typical yield strength of 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) against 540 MPa (78.3 ksi) for H41 — about 15% more. Tensile strength is 900 MPa (131 ksi) vs 800 MPa (116 ksi).
Which is cheaper, H21 or H41?
H21 is the lower-cost material: it sits in the standard tier ($$) while H41 is high ($$$$). Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
Which welds better, H21 or H41?
H21. Its weldability rates fair (35/100) against poor (25/100) for H41.
