Magnesium Alloy AM100A-T6 vs AM100A-T7

Magnesium Alloy · AM100A temper comparison

AM100A-T6 and AM100A-T7 are two conditions of the same magnesium alloy grade, AM100A: T6 (solution heat treated and artificially aged) versus T7 (solution heat treated and overaged (stabilized)). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. AM100A-T6 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 152 MPa (22 ksi) against 110 MPa (16 ksi) for AM100A-T7, about 38% more; tensile strength follows at 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) vs 250 MPa (36.3 ksi). In exchange, AM100A-T7 is the more ductile: elongation 4% versus 1% for AM100A-T6, and AM100A-T6 is harder (69 HB vs 63 HB). AM100A-T7 runs hotter in service (150°C vs 120°C continuous).

AM100A-T6 vs AM100A-T7 — frequently asked

Is AM100A-T6 stronger than AM100A-T7?

Yes. AM100A-T6 has a typical yield strength of 152 MPa (22 ksi) against 110 MPa (16 ksi) for AM100A-T7 — about 38% more. Tensile strength is 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) vs 250 MPa (36.3 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, T6 or T7?

T6 is the default AM100A condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

When should I choose AM100A-T6 over AM100A-T7?

Pick AM100A-T6 when strength drives the design. Pick AM100A-T7 when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
