Magnesium Alloy AM100A-T4 vs AM100A-T6

Magnesium Alloy · AM100A temper comparison

AM100A-T4 and AM100A-T6 are two conditions of the same magnesium alloy grade, AM100A: T4 (solution heat treated and naturally aged) versus T6 (solution heat treated and artificially aged). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. AM100A-T6 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 152 MPa (22 ksi) against 83 MPa (12 ksi) for AM100A-T4, about 83% more. In exchange, AM100A-T4 is the more ductile: elongation 10% versus 1% for AM100A-T6, and AM100A-T6 is harder (69 HB vs 53 HB). AM100A-T6 runs hotter in service (120°C vs 110°C continuous).
