Steel H25-ANN vs H25-AQ
Steel · H25 temper comparison
H25-ANN and H25-AQ are two conditions of the same steel grade, H25: ANN (annealed) versus AQ (as-quenched). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. H25-AQ is the stronger of the two: yield strength 1,600 MPa (232 ksi) against 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) for H25-ANN, about 3.7 times as much; tensile strength follows at 1,960 MPa (284 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi). In exchange, H25-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 1% for H25-AQ, and H25-AQ is harder (560 HB vs 217 HB). H25-ANN runs hotter in service (400°C vs 200°C continuous) and H25-ANN conducts heat better (27 W/m·K vs 24 W/m·K). On the shop floor, H25-ANN machines more easily (poor vs not recommended) and H25-ANN welds better (poor vs not recommended).
H25-ANNChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
H25-AQChoose it when strength drives the design.
H25-ANN vs H25-AQ: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

H25-ANN vs H25-AQ — frequently asked
Is H25-AQ stronger than H25-ANN?
Yes. H25-AQ has a typical yield strength of 1,600 MPa (232 ksi) against 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) for H25-ANN — about 3.7 times as much. Tensile strength is 1,960 MPa (284 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or AQ?
ANN is the default H25 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, H25-ANN or H25-AQ?
H25-ANN. Its machinability rates poor (32/100) against not recommended (5/100) for H25-AQ; for welding the order is H25-ANN first (poor, 25/100) then H25-AQ (not recommended, 5/100).

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in H25-ANN and H25-AQ side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
