Steel H25-ANN vs H25-HR

Steel · H25 temper comparison

H25-ANN and H25-HR are two conditions of the same steel grade, H25: ANN (annealed) versus HR (hot rolled). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. H25-HR is the stronger of the two: yield strength 800 MPa (116 ksi) against 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) for H25-ANN, about 86% more; tensile strength follows at 1,000 MPa (145 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi). In exchange, H25-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 12% for H25-HR, and H25-HR is harder (300 HB vs 217 HB). H25-HR runs hotter in service (500°C vs 400°C continuous). On the shop floor, H25-ANN machines more easily (32 vs 20 out of 100) and H25-ANN welds better (25 vs 15 out of 100).

H25-ANN vs H25-HR — frequently asked

Is H25-HR stronger than H25-ANN?

Yes. H25-HR has a typical yield strength of 800 MPa (116 ksi) against 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) for H25-ANN — about 86% more. Tensile strength is 1,000 MPa (145 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or HR?

ANN is the default H25 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

Which is easier to machine, H25-ANN or H25-HR?

H25-ANN, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 32/100 against 20/100 for H25-HR; for welding the order is H25-ANN first (poor, 25/100) then H25-HR (poor, 15/100).

Ready to make it?

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in H25-ANN and H25-HR side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.

Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
