Steel En26 Nitrided vs En26 Normalized
Steel · En26 temper comparison
En26 Nitrided and En26 Normalized are two conditions of the same steel grade, En26: Nitrided versus Normalized. The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. En26 Nitrided is the stronger of the two: yield strength 790 MPa (115 ksi) against 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) for En26 Normalized, about 27% more; tensile strength follows at 1,000 MPa (145 ksi) vs 950 MPa (138 ksi). In exchange, En26 Normalized is the more ductile: elongation 14% versus 12% for En26 Nitrided, and En26 Nitrided is harder (310 HB vs 285 HB). En26 Nitrided runs hotter in service (480°C vs 400°C continuous). On the shop floor, En26 Normalized machines more easily (fair vs not recommended) and En26 Normalized welds better (poor vs not recommended).
En26 NitridedChoose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
En26 NormalizedChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part is machined in volume.
En26 Nitrided vs En26 Normalized: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

En26 Nitrided vs En26 Normalized — frequently asked
Is En26 Nitrided stronger than En26 Normalized?
Yes. En26 Nitrided has a typical yield strength of 790 MPa (115 ksi) against 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) for En26 Normalized — about 27% more. Tensile strength is 1,000 MPa (145 ksi) vs 950 MPa (138 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, Nitrided or Normalized?
T is the default En26 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither Nitrided nor Normalized). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, En26 Nitrided or En26 Normalized?
En26 Normalized. Its machinability rates fair (42/100) against not recommended (8/100) for En26 Nitrided; for welding the order is En26 Normalized first (poor, 28/100) then En26 Nitrided (not recommended, 5/100).
