Precious Metal PdNi-H04 vs PdNi-M
Precious Metal · PdNi temper comparison
PdNi-H04 and PdNi-M are two conditions of the same precious metal grade, PdNi: H04 (full hard) versus M (thermomechanically controlled processed). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. PdNi-H04 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 850 MPa (123 ksi) against 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) for PdNi-M, about 3.4 times as much; tensile strength follows at 950 MPa (138 ksi) vs 550 MPa (79.8 ksi). In exchange, PdNi-M is the more ductile: elongation 30% versus 2% for PdNi-H04, and PdNi-H04 is harder (270 HB vs 133 HB). PdNi-M runs hotter in service (600°C vs 300°C continuous). On the shop floor, PdNi-H04 machines more easily (fair vs poor) and PdNi-M welds better (good vs fair).
PdNi-H04Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part is machined in volume.
PdNi-MChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
PdNi-H04 vs PdNi-M: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all precious metal grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

PdNi-H04 vs PdNi-M — frequently asked
Is PdNi-H04 stronger than PdNi-M?
Yes. PdNi-H04 has a typical yield strength of 850 MPa (123 ksi) against 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) for PdNi-M — about 3.4 times as much. Tensile strength is 950 MPa (138 ksi) vs 550 MPa (79.8 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H04 or M?
M is the default PdNi condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, PdNi-H04 or PdNi-M?
PdNi-H04. Its machinability rates fair (40/100) against poor (28/100) for PdNi-M; for welding the order is PdNi-M first (good, 60/100) then PdNi-H04 (fair, 45/100).
