Copper Alloy TP2-H06 vs TP2-M20

Copper Alloy · TP2 temper comparison

TP2-H06 and TP2-M20 are two conditions of the same copper alloy grade, TP2: H06 (extra hard) versus M20 (as hot rolled). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. TP2-H06 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 315 MPa (45.7 ksi) against 75 MPa (10.9 ksi) for TP2-M20, about 4.2 times as much; tensile strength follows at 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) vs 220 MPa (31.9 ksi). In exchange, TP2-M20 is the more ductile: elongation 40% versus 5% for TP2-H06, and TP2-H06 is harder (102 HB vs 45 HB). TP2-M20 runs hotter in service (175°C vs 150°C continuous). On the shop floor, TP2-H06 machines more easily (30 vs 20 out of 100) and TP2-M20 welds better (excellent vs very good).

TP2-H06 vs TP2-M20 — frequently asked

Is TP2-H06 stronger than TP2-M20?

Yes. TP2-H06 has a typical yield strength of 315 MPa (45.7 ksi) against 75 MPa (10.9 ksi) for TP2-M20 — about 4.2 times as much. Tensile strength is 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) vs 220 MPa (31.9 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H06 or M20?

H58 is the default TP2 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither H06 nor M20). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

Which is easier to machine, TP2-H06 or TP2-M20?

TP2-H06, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 30/100 against 20/100 for TP2-M20; for welding the order is TP2-M20 first (excellent, 85/100) then TP2-H06 (very good, 75/100).
