Copper Alloy C10100-H03 vs C10100-O

Copper Alloy · C10100 temper comparison

C10100-H03 and C10100-O are two conditions of the same copper alloy grade, C10100: H03 (three-quarter hard) versus O (annealed). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. C10100-H03 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) against 69 MPa (10 ksi) for C10100-O, about 4.0 times as much; tensile strength follows at 315 MPa (45.7 ksi) vs 235 MPa (34.1 ksi). In exchange, C10100-O is the more ductile: elongation 45% versus 10% for C10100-H03, and C10100-H03 is harder (87 HB vs 45 HB). C10100-O runs hotter in service (200°C vs 150°C continuous). On the shop floor, C10100-H03 machines more easily (30 vs 18 out of 100) and C10100-O welds better (very good vs good).

C10100-H03Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part is machined in volume.

C10100-OChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.

C10100-H03 vs C10100-O — frequently asked

Is C10100-H03 stronger than C10100-O?

Yes. C10100-H03 has a typical yield strength of 275 MPa (39.9 ksi) against 69 MPa (10 ksi) for C10100-O — about 4.0 times as much. Tensile strength is 315 MPa (45.7 ksi) vs 235 MPa (34.1 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H03 or O?

O is the default C10100 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

Which is easier to machine, C10100-H03 or C10100-O?

C10100-H03, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 30/100 against 18/100 for C10100-O; for welding the order is C10100-O first (very good, 70/100) then C10100-H03 (good, 60/100).
